To our Dream Big Community:
In this week of “Thanks” I wanted to thank YOU for being such an important part of the Dream Big community. It has been an honor and a privilege to serve each and every one of you and your children. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your ongoing support and believing in our vision. We couldn’t have accomplished all that we have so far without you.
Dream Big is now 11 years old. We currently serve an average of 500 students per week and as we continue to grow, I am constantly assessing what is in the best interest of our students, families, teaching and administrative staff, school partners and, of course, our company. In the last 2 years, we have created sustainable systems and processes to ensure efficiency, optimal service, and continued growth. We have also developed an excellent leadership team whose main goal is to provide the highest quality educational programming around, while addressing the needs of our entire community, including parents, staff and community partnerships.
After much professional guidance and analysis, it has become clear that we need to create structural shifts in order to sustain the operations and projected growth of Dream Big at a financial and administrative level. In simplified terms, Dream Big offers drama classes to children. However when you look more closely, we manage 4 separate entities with 4 very distinct cycles of operations that require very different skill-sets necessary to effectively maintain, operate and grow. Having been the sole owner of Dream Big for the past 11 years, I understand all too well the importance of relying on a team moving forward in order to expand and grow. It has come to the point where it is too much for one person. I am ready to guide and mentor additional partners to carry the vision of Dream Big into the future.
With this in mind, Dream Big is seeking 3-4 partners to share equity in the company and join our team to help manage, market and operate each of the following 4 areas of our organization:
Productions: Currently one professional production per year during the second half of the summer starring an average of 40 2nd-8th graders.
Camps: Creative theme-based one week drama camps over winter, spring and summer breaks.
Enrichment: All out-of-school time programming including tuition-based before school, lunch-time and after school programs, private parties and partnership programs.
Education: Drama integration and elective programming that takes place during the school day in collaboration with classroom teachers and school staff to enhance curriculum as well as meet educational standards and goals.
In my estimation, when separated out, each area of the business requires approximately a 20-hour per week time commitment. In addition, as aforementioned, each requires distinct skill-sets and background experience to succeed at an optimum level. In simplified terms, they include, but are not limited to:
Productions: Experience as a producer of larger scale productions, as well as the ability to engage substantial sponsorship (Seeking to fill this role by January 1st, 2017)
Camps: This entity requires an experienced marketing director who has a personal connection to understanding the value of drama in children’s lives (Seeking to fill this role by January 1st, 2017)
Enrichment: Seeking a parent networker who has strong ties to schools and the community (Seeking to fill this role by June 30, 2017)
Education: Since this entity is in the process of becoming a non-profit, we are seeking someone with experience and expertise in creating a non-profit, engaging a board, and in seeking, writing and successfully being awarded grant money. This person should also have a background as a K-12 educator and in building strong relationships with principals and school staff members. (Seeking to fill this role by June 30, 2017)
All areas of Dream Big require:
Strong organization skills
Ability to manage a budget and cash flow
Strong leadership and communication skills
These part-owners will effectively run their own small business while having the support of our overall brand and team, which, in addition to myself, includes Dream Big’s Education Director, Siobhan Maycraft, and Director’s Assistant, Kelly Vaughn.
Please understand these are not salaried positions. Each director’s income will remain solely based on their entity’s revenue and a percentage of sales. I am happy to discuss historical financials with qualified candidates. If you are interested in learning more about this opportunity and your experience is a fit, please email me your resume, cover letter, your intent and a description of why you think you would be a perfect fit for one of these roles.
If you know someone whose background is exactly what Dream Big needs, feel free to spread the word. A brief summary of each entity and role requirements are attached.
