Production Manager

Dream Big Performing Arts Workshop seeks a PRODUCTION MANAGER for our second annual, full-scale children’s production, Seussical Jr. This production will be the culmination of a four-week camp open to children entering 2-8th grades. We anticipate 50+ participants who will audition and each be assigned a role(s) best suited to their abilities. Rehearsals and performances will take place in the rehearsal rooms and on Main Stage of the Athenaeum Theatre in Lakeview. The Production Manager will work with the Director and Dream Big’s Executive Director on conception, design and execution of the August 2016 production. The Production Manager is expected to be proactive and self-motivated, possess creativity, excellent collaborative and interpersonal skills and enthusiasm.

Responsibilities:

Prior to August

  • Working with the Executive Director to create and maintain a production budget
  • Researching cost-effective options for set and prop pieces and organizing their logistics
  • Procurement of set and prop pieces
  • Scheduling a production calendar
  • Planning overall production design
  • Regular meetings with Executive Director and Director plus two team meetings
  • Timely distribution of design and production meeting notes to the team
  • Research and hiring of production team including lighting, sound and projection

During August

  • Oversee daily logistics of production and camp
  • Coordinates daily calls and rehearsal reports prior with Stage Manager
  • Organizing and communicating with parent volunteers
  • Delegates roles and responsibilities to other members of the production and teaching team
  • Works with Camp Experience Director on daily schedules
  • Ability to create your own schedule to be at rehearsals and gathering materials for production within the established rehearsal hours of 9:45am - 4:15pm, Mondays - Fridays, Aug. 1-26, 2016

- Load In: Monday, Aug 22, 2016
- Tech week: Aug 22 - 26, 2016
- Performances: Aug 26 (Evening) and Aug 27 (Matinee)
- Strike: Aug 27 and Aug. 29, 2016

  • Organize return logistics of prop and set pieces

Minimum requirements and skills:

The Production Manager should be able to demonstrate a record of success with previous projects, have at least two years of experience with production management on a scale equivalent to Dream Big (a sample of last year’s production can be seen here Annie Jr.) and have experience working with children’s theater.

The Production Manager is expected to be proactive and self-motivated, possess creativity, excellent collaborative and interpersonal skills and enthusiasm. He or she needs to work well in a team setting and be available for prompt and efficient communication via e-mail. The Production Manager must stay calm in stressful situations and keep the needs and abilities of the child performers in mind at all times. And, above all, he or she must enjoy working with children and allow them the time and space for learning and growth.
