Operations and Marketing Manager

Dream Big Performing Arts Workshop offers a variety of drama classes to children ages 2-18. Our classes are designed to foster creativity, self-expression and teamwork and, of course, to be a whole lot of fun! All of our teachers have had years of experience in theatre as professional performers, directors, choreographers and/or writers and have a passion for teaching kids in the performing arts. Some of our most popular classes include musical theatre, improvisation, story drama and, our creatively themed 1-week drama camps.

Dream Big Performing Arts Workshops serve hundreds of Chicago-area children and continues to grow through programs associated with CPS, private education institutions, and other educational programs. While Dream Big is a for-profit company, many programs receive support though our company in the form of grant-writing and other available financial support.

The role:

Dream Big Performing Arts Workshop (DBPAW) is currently seeing a “jack of all trades”, full-time employee to concentrate on growing DBPAW through effective marketing and smart operations that grows with the company. This candidate will learn how to run the current business and will be tasked with improving current systems and creating/executing a marketing plan to grow the number of students and programs that we serve. Part of that growth will be dependent on the ability to help partner organizations procure funding, which is often done through grants and other financial gifts that DBPAW will apply for in support of our partners. Additional income may be possible if the candidate can exceed a pre-determined threshold of sales.

This position will work closely with the founder of DBPAW, who will mentor this new employee and act as an Artistic Director, eventually turning over the majority of operations to the Operations and Marketing Manager. Ideally, the Business Manager will act as a partner in the leadership of DBPAW and partial ownership may be an opportunity. This position will be extremely active in the day-to-day operations of the business and be willing to wear many hats…no job is too big or small. Eventually, this position will have the ability to hire additional staff and take on/delegate responsibilities.

This position will be required to work at least 40 hours per week during normal office hours. Initially, The Operations and Marketing Manager will be required to work from home and will work with the founder and other employees via phone, email etc. They will be required to meet with employees and attend session and meetings regularly in the Chicago area. Eventually, this position will be required to work in an office setting in the Chicago area.

Requirements:

  • BS/BA or equivalent
  • 5+ years of experience in marketing, education, arts management, or equivalent
  • Grant Writing Experience
  • Ability to work independently
  • Passion for the arts/education
  • Demonstrated ability to manage staff and interns
  • Proven track record in implementing new systems and growing revenue
  • Experience creating and executing marketing plans, including email campaigns and social media management
  • Entrepreneurial attitude
  • A personal computer and phone
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, WordPress (or similar), Google Docs, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Reliable transportation around the Chicago area

Ideal Candidates will also have the following:

  • Willingness to learn/perform administrative tasks (learning the business)
  • Ability to delegate when appropriate/possible
  • Comfort with “selling” company’s services to partner organizations
  • Excellent communication with professional educators and artists
  • Desire to work/communicate with children and their parents
  • Experience in managing relationships with professional partners
  • Ability to work in an ever-changing, flexible environment
  • Interest in improving systems, researching new technology and learning about new business tools.
  • Ability to problem solve and troubleshoot while providing excellent customer service to customers and partners
