First Week at Romona…

Broadway Kids is off with a running start at Romona Elementary School in Wilmette. We have two FANTASTIC groups of students who are full of boundless energy, infinite enthusiasm, and contagious spunk. Despite the outgoing confidence, many of the students informed me this, in fact, was their "first ever" drama class. How exciting! Although we had many new faces, there are a few theatre veterans in the mix whom I am certain will act as leaders within our group.

The first and second grade students have decided to perform, "Oh the Thinks You Can Think", a hit number from the Broadway production of Seussical, a musical based on the classic books of the one and only Dr. Seuss. Similarly, the third and fourth graders have selected "Popular", another modern Broadway tune from the crowd pleasing musical Wicked. (Check it out! It's playing in Chicago now through January 23 if you haven't had a chance to see it.)

Immediately after selecting songs, each group enthusiastically brainstormed several creative choreography ideas... we may even try to coerce some of our favorite Romona teachers into making cameo appearances... Next week, each student will receive a lyric sheet and CD so they can begin practicing. And then...from there... we create theatre magic!

Thank you for signing your child up for Broadway Kids. I am so privileged to be working with such a talented bunch of students and cannot wait to continue to work with them and watch their progression throughout the next seven weeks!
